We are committed to the principles set out in the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006 and to the Regulators' Compliance Code, a statutory code of practice for regulators.
This means our regulatory activities are targeted only where action is needed and we carry these out in a way that is transparent, accountable, proportional and consistent. We will be consulting with all our stakeholders about our obligations under the Regulator’s Compliance Code.
Our policies, procedures and practices are constantly under review and we aim to ensure that our regulation of the private security industry is effective and efficient. We will continue to update these pages with information about our good regulatory approach and related developments.
Submitting Simplification Proposals
We welcome proposals from stakeholders on how our policies, processes and services can be simplified. We are committed to continuous improvement and the principles of good regulation. Guidance on how to submit a simplification proposal is available through the Better Regulation Executive website. Please read this guidance before sending in your proposal.
You can submit your proposals to the Home Office or to the Better Regulation Executive in the Cabinet Office. You can also e-mail your proposals directly to us. We will consider all simplification proposals and respond within 90 days.
Working with the Better Regulation Executive
An example of our commitment to continuous improvement and to working in partnership with industry stakeholders has been the development of a better regulation action plan.
In August 2006, the Better Regulation Executive (BRE) visited five groups of licence holders at our request. The purpose of these visits was to discuss our regulatory approach to date. We developed an action plan (download size: 148kb) based on the BRE's findings and our own review processes.

"This encouraging work demonstrates that the SIA is committed to responding effectively and constructively to suggestions from stakeholders."
William Sargent, BRE |
We contacted the same companies in May 2007 so that we could get their feedback on how we had done. We distributed a short questionnaire relating to the areas for action set out in the plan: the results are summarised in this document (download size: 56kb).
We would like to thank all of the companies involved for participating in this valuable exercise.
