We are committed to the Government's principles of good regulation. We aim to be:
Proportionate
We operate an effective enforcement process that is proportionate to the degree of non-compliance encountered. We issue verbal or written warnings and improvement notices; we will only use criminal prosecution as a last resort.
Our Enforcement Policy - Code of Practice (download size: 235kb) ensures that our compliance activity is transparent, open and consistent. Our enforcement policy is compliant with the Hampton principles.
Accountable
We consult with representative associations, institutions and, when appropriate, more widely with individual stakeholders to ensure that they have the opportunity to be involved in any relevant decision making process. We also publish relevant policies and strategies to ensure that those affected by our decisions are aware of developments.
We have published our Competency Renewal Strategy (download size: 164kb), which was developed in association with our endorsed awarding bodies (ASET, BIIAB, BCUC, City & Guilds, Edexcel and NOCN), Skills for Security and the regulatory authorities for qualifications.
"The SIA is to be commended for its thorough and forward-looking approach to the recognition of prior experience and learning. From the beginning they involved awarding bodies in the development of competency frameworks and ensured existing qualifications were given due regard as an important strand of the competency strategy within the licensing process."
Sallyann Baldry, Edexcel
