SIA Scottish Briefings a Success

Five cities in five days as regulation moves a step forward in Scotland

5 May 2006: Regulation of the private security industry in Scotland moved closer last week as the Security Industry Authority (SIA) briefing roadshow visited five Scottish cities in five days - Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness - to brief Scottish based security companies and stakeholders on the changes. The briefings were well attended and were hailed as a success by the attendees and the SIA.

Presentations were given by SIA Board members, SIA staff, Scottish Executive officials and senior managers and executives from the private security industry.

Licensing and regulation of the private security industry extends to Scotland from November 2007. In this series of briefings to providers of private security services and interested stakeholders, SIA representatives, headed by SIA Acting Chairman Robin Dahlberg, informed on the rationale and proposed timetable for regulation.

Robin Dahlberg said:

"The SIA roadshows were well attended and a great success. They not only gave the Scottish security industry the chance to learn more about the changes ahead, but they encouraged useful and positive debate among the attendees and SIA representatives. I look forward to the next round of roadshows in June when we will be meeting buyers of private security services in Scotland and informing them on the benefits of licensing and regulation."

The next round of SIA roadshows will be visiting Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness on 5 – 9 June. We are also proposing to visit: the Orkney Islands (13 June), the Shetland Islands (14 June), Skye (20 June), and the Outer Hebrides (21 June).

Buyers of private security services and interested stakeholders can register their interest to attend the roadshows by visiting the SIA website or by calling 020 7227 3625.
