24 July 2008: Today at Chester Crown Court, wheel clamper Iain Watson was given a 12 month community punishment order with 200 hours of unpaid work after being found guilty of 20 counts of fraud. 65 other offences were also taken in consideration.
Watson, 31, from Greenway, Crewe was also ordered to pay back the money to motorists he illegally clamped, which amounted to over £8,000.
Watson was arrested in September 2007 after a witness, who had been clamped, checked the Security Industry Authority's (SIA) Register of Licence Holders and found Watson was working without an SIA Vehicle Immobiliser licence.
Rachael White, an SIA Head of Investigation said:
"SIA licensing protects the public from unsuitable people working in positions of trust in the private security industry and we commend the police for taking this case forward.
Anyone can use the SIA online Register of Licence Holders to check whether someone holds a valid SIA licence."
