30 July 2008: Officers from Northumbria Police and Investigators from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) conducted checks on door supervisors working at licensed premises within Newcastle City Centre.
The successful joint operation took place on Saturday 26 July when 9 licensed premises were visited and 39 door supervisors checked.
Of the 39 door staff checked, 35 (90%) held valid SIA licences and 4 door supervisors were reported for working without a valid licence. 4 door supervisors were reported for contravening licence conditions (failing to display their licence).
Lucia Howland, an SIA Head of Investigation said:
"I am pleased with the outcome of this operation and the high level of door supervisors who are complying with the law. Newcastle City Centre has a rich mix of busy pubs, clubs and bars. It is essential that the door staff working at these venues are trained, qualified and fit and proper persons for their role."
PC Murray Cassidy, of the city centre Neighbourhood Policing team, said:
"It's important that all people who are employed on the doors of licensed premises in Newcastle work with a valid licence and within the conditions of the licence issued by the SIA.
You can no longer work the doors of a licensed premises without the relevant licence. We are pleased that during this joint operation the majority of door staff were found to be complying with the law." |
