ACS Review

The Approved Contractor Scheme conditions for approval are subject to annual, independent review.

Direction from the Secretary of State specifies that:

"There shall be an annual review of the conditions being applied under section 15(3) (c) of the 2001 Act. Any proposed changes to these conditions will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration."

The 2008 review was conducted on our behalf by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). The purpose of this review was to determine potential changes to the conditions that may enhance delivery of the aims of the SIA and of the Approved Contractor Scheme, in accordance with the principles of better regulation.

Fee levels remained outside the scope of the review, which considered ACS eligibility requirements and routes to approval as currently defined in:

John Harkin from the OGC conducted the review and reported his findings in February 2008. The Home Office and SIA Board have since considered and responded to the points raised.

Additionally a separate review of the benefits of the ACS was commissioned and this also fed into the OGC review. All reports can be viewed and downloaded from below (you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your machine).
