"There are different views about the effectiveness of SIA enforcement actions - some think we are too soft, others too hard. Some companies think we are both - too hard on them and too soft on the others!"
Andy Drane, SIA Deputy Chief Executive |
The main criticisms levelled at the SIA's enforcement activities are:
- we pick on easy targets and are not prioritising on the worst offenders;
- we focus on 'minor infringements';
- people feel they are treated like criminals;
- we ignore (and don't act on) the information passed to us;
- we don't prosecute enough people.
In an article written for the May 2007 edition of Security Management Today, Andy Drane answers these criticisms and explains the SIA's enforcement strategy.
