GERMANY

Anyone resident outside the Federal Republic of Germany who has reached the age of 14 can make a written application for a private certificate of good conduct ("polizeiliches Fuhrungszeugnis"), made to the Central Criminal Register.

German residents who wish to apply for a certificate should apply through their local registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt). The application must contain the applicants name and address, as well as a signature. Personal details and signature must be confirmed officially. Such official confirmation can be provided by a German embassy or consulate, or by a foreign public authority or a notary public. Submission of an officially certified photocopy of official identity papers showing the personal details of the person to whom the application refers will also suffice. The copy is to be signed by the applicant prior to certification. A note is to be made it the name at birth is not the same as the family name. The charge for each certificate is ?13, and payment can be made by cheque or transfer to the following account of the Bundeszentralregister:

A fee is payable, fingerprints and photographs are taken. The application form is available for completion at the Ghana High Commission in London. The application, together with fingerprints, photograph and fee, is then sent to Accra and if suitable a Police Clearance Certificate is issued to the applicant.

Applicants for criminal record certificates can apply by filling in the requisite form, available from any Hungarian post office, or if they are abroad, they can contact the local embassy or consulate. The cost is 2000Ft.

Applicants in the UK should go in person to the Consulate in order to fill out the Request for Confirmation of Non-Criminal Records/Undecided cases. A passport and photos are required for identification and to send with the form.

British nationals can obtain good conduct certificates at the Consular section of the British Embassy in Rome for a fee (amount not known).

Italian nationals should apply to their local Giudice Unico di Primo Grado for a certificate generale which contains both civil and criminal records. They should specify that they need a country wide certificate.
