On 1st April 2003 we became a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB). This means that, although we are ultimately responsible to the Home Secretary, we have our own governing board and day-to-day operation is under the direction of a Chief Executive.
Although we have been established through funding from the Home Office, we are required to become self financing as soon as we reasonably can. We are discussing with the Home Office a timetable for financial self-sufficiency.
Our fee income will initially come from two sources; the charges we shall make for processing a personal licence application, and those we charge for companies to become an ‘approved contractor’.
