Requests for information
The SIA proactively publishes a wide range of information. In addition, in early 2004, we established a publication scheme under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Therefore, you may first wish to search the SIA publication scheme. You could also search our website to find out if the information you require has already been published or if there are plans to do so.
From 1 January 2005, you will have full access rights under the Freedom of Information Act if the information you require is not included in our publication scheme.
Any request you make should be as specific as possible about the information you require and must be in writing. You should also include your name, address and the method by which you would like us to respond (post, email etc), if you have a preference.
Make a request for information. Find out more about your rights under the Freedom of Information Act by consulting the Office of the Information Commissioner.

Requests for personal data
The Data Protection Act 1998 governs the processing of personal data (information relating to living individuals). This legislation makes it possible for you to request access to personal data that we may hold about you. A request for disclosure of such information is called a subject access request.

Limits of disclosure
We will disclose information wherever possible. However, in certain limited circumstances and only where there is a legal basis for doing so, exemptions to the general requirement to release information may be applied. Exemptions for withholding information are set out in Part II of the Freedom of Information Act and Part IV of the Data Protection Act. In any case where information is refused, we will specify which exemption is being claimed and why. All requests for information will be carefully considered on their own merits and with close regard to the public interest.
Please contact us if you are not satisfied with our response to your request.
