Exemption from Core Competency Training
Cash-in-Transit operatives who have successfully achieved an award/qualification in a related discipline and hold a certificate, which has been awarded by a Qualifications and Curriculum Authority approved awarding body, may be exempt from core competency training.
Three different criteria have been set for exemption regarding core competency training. These three areas are set out below:
- Cash-in-Transit operatives who have successfully achieved an award/qualification in a related discipline and hold a certificate which has been awarded since 1 January 2001 by a Qualifications and Curriculum Authority approved awarding body, may be exempt from core competency training and assessment.
Known examples of such exemptions are:
Level 2 Cash Transportation and Distribution Programme Award – NOCN/SITO
- Cash-in-transit operatives who have successfully achieved an award/qualification in a related discipline and hold a certificate which has been awarded between I January 1996 and 31 December 2000 by a Qualifications and Curriculum Authority approved awarding body as a precursor to the Level 2 Cash Transportation and Distribution Programme Award – NOCN/SITO may be exempt from core competency training and assessment

Security Industry Basic Training For Cash-in-Transit Personnel Award – NOCN/SITO
NVQ Level 2 Transporting Property Under Guard
Transporting property Under Guard Exam – City and Guilds
Providing:
- There is evidence to show they have been in continuous employment within the Cash-in -Transit sector since attaining this award
- There is evidence to show continual professional development and refresher training throughout this employment period that relates to the Cash-in -Transit sector.
This is subject to audit criteria set by the SIA, awarding bodies and associated organisations
- All other current Cash-in-Transit operatives who have not successfully achieved an award/qualification in a related discipline and hold a certificate, which has been awarded by a Qualifications and Curriculum Authority approved awarding body may be exempted from core competency training but must pass the necessary assessment examinations. Exemption from core competency training is left to the discretion of the employee and the employer.
All new entrants into the Cash-in-Transit industry must complete the Core Competency Training and successfully pass all assessment examinations.
How to obtain exemption
Those who are exempt from the new cash and valuables in transit qualification should contact the appropriate awarding body or training provider for guidance.
Duration of Exemption
The exemptions will remain in force until the SIA is satisfied that the new SIA approved qualification is available throughout England and Wales
Overseas Qualifications
Applicants from overseas who have a relevant qualification in Cash Transportation or another related discipline may present their certificates to an awarding body for part accreditation. All overseas applicants will be required to demonstrate that they can communicate in English and that they have attended training in subjects relating to legislation in England and Wales.
