Applying for a licence

There are two ways to apply for a licence:

  • By calling 08702 430 100 (lines open 8am until 6pm Mon-Fri)
  • Through our website

Before applying for a licence please make sure you have:

Request an application pack

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE APPLYING:

We will need information such as your name, contact details and the type of licence required. We will then send a part-completed application form to be filled in and returned, together with supporting documentation, for example, proof of identity, a personal photograph and the application fee, (documentation will be returned).

Your application will be assessed against criminality, training / qualifications and other criteria and a decision will then be reached on whether to issue a licence. We will write explaining our decision and, if successfully granted, a licence will be issued to cover the applicant for a period of three years.

It will take between 4-6 weeks for your application to be processed, from when a correctly completed application form is received. Applications will only be processed once your payment has been cleared.

When returning your completed application form you will need to send an acceptable photograph and documentation click here for details.

It is now against the law to work as a door supervisor anywhere in England and Wales without an SIA licence, with the exception of:

  • South East:  You will need an SIA licence by 28 February 2005
  • London:  You will need an SIA licence by 11 April 2005

Training Exemption Certificates

Even if you are fully exempt from the new SIA approved training or qualification, you will need to exchange your current certificate for the new Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors before applying for your SIA licence.

If you do not have the new certificate your details may not be on the SIA qualifications database. This will result in your licence application being rejected and you will lose your application fee.

Before sending your licence application to the SIA, check that you have the new certificate. For more information or to exchange your current certificate contact the British Institute of InnKeeping on 01276 68 4449. The BIIAB will advise you on what you need to do to get your details onto the SIA qualification database

Appeals

If a licence is refused, or revoked an applicant will have 21 days to appeal to the appropriate Magistrate’s Court, covering the area in which the applicant is licensed, or has applied to be licensed with the SIA.
