SIA Licences – Door Supervision – Transition

by SIA Site Admin // December 11

Door supervisors will be the first sector within the private security industry to be licensed.

There will be a large number of applications to deal with and the introduction of SIA licensing will be phased in on a regional basis across the country. This will also allow compliance and enforcement teams to monitor how well the system is working on the ground.

After the dates shown in column 2, it will be against the law to work as a door supervisor without an SIA licence and locally issued licences, badges and registration schemes will no longer be recognised.

We need to carefully manage the number of applications so the earliest that you can apply for a licence, in a particular region is shown in column 1. You cannot apply for a licence yet. When the time comes (after the date in column 1) you will be able to telephone for an application form or ask for an application form on our website. In the meantime if you give us your details we will then send you the information that you need to apply for a licence when the time comes. You can register your details on-line or by ringing 08702 430 100.

If your current local authority licence expires before the date shown in column 2 and you have not obtained an SIA licence, you will still need a valid local authority or locally issued police licence or badge where these are currently required.

If your current local authority licence expires before the date shown in column 2 and you have obtained an SIA licence you may be able to use your SIA licence to satisfy the requirements of the local authority/police etc. However, you will need to check this with whoever currently issues local licences.

Before applying for a licence you will need to ensure that you have the necessary skills. Click here for details of the qualifications required.

It will take between 4-6 weeks for an application to be processed. You should therefore ensure that applications are requested as soon as possible after the dates shown in column 1.

Once you have an SIA licence you will be able to use it in any region from the date shown in column 2 for that region
