Deadline approaches for door supervisors in Hampshire & Isle of Wight

Security Industry Authority licences legally required by 4 June 2004

From 4 June, just over a week’s time, it will be a legal requirement for door supervisors working in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to hold a Security Industry Authority (SIA) door supervisor licence. All local authority door supervisor registration schemes in Hampshire and the IoW will cease.

Door supervisors and their managers working without an SIA licence risk prosecution and damage their eligibility to be licensed in the future.

Premises licence holders using unlicensed door supervisors put their premises licence at risk

Andy Drane, Deputy Chief Executive of the SIA, said: “There will be no grace period; the law doesn’t work like that. Once the date has been set by the Secretary of State, it is in force and it cannot be ignored.”

“Immediate action will be taken by the police against those found working without an SIA licence. Door supervisors, managers and premises licence holders remain strictly liable for any failure to comply.”
